Power-to-Liquid Technology

Turning CO₂ into
sustainable fuel
for the future

Carbon Exel is a Québec-based startup transforming carbon dioxide into sustainable aviation fuel and e-fuels — making carbon-neutral energy a reality.

Our mission

Closing the carbon loop with chemistry

We utilize captured CO₂ from industrial sources and convert it into drop-in sustainable electo-fuels (e-fuels) using renewable electricity — creating a closed carbon cycle that decarbonizes aviation and heavy transport without changing existing infrastructure.

Founded in Laval and developed in collaboration with Polytechnique Montréal, our Process Intensified Power-to-Liquid process addresses one of the hardest-to-abate sectors in the global economy.

How it works

Four steps from
carbon to fuel

01
CO₂ capture
Carbon dioxide is captured from industrial point sources — factories, biofuel producers, cement plants — before it reaches the atmosphere.
02
Green hydrogen
Water/steam is split via electrolysis powered by renewable electricity, producing green hydrogen with low carbon footprint.
03
Catalytic membrane reactor
CO₂ and H₂ are converted via our proprietary direct CO₂ hydrogenation process into liquid hydrocarbons.
04
Drop-in fuel output
Finished SAF and e-fuels are certified drop-in replacements — no aircraft or engine modifications required.

Applications

Decarbonizing
hard-to-abate sectors

01
Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF)
SAF reduces lifecycle carbon emissions by up to 80% compared to conventional jet fuel. Drop-in ready for all commercial aircraft — no infrastructure changes required.
Aviation
02
Heavy transport & marine
E-diesel and e-methanol for long-haul trucking, shipping, and port operations — sectors where electrification alone cannot deliver the required energy density.
Transport
03
Industrial decarbonization
Carbon-neutral process fuels for industrial applications — leveraging existing industrial CO₂ point sources as feedstock to close the carbon loop on-site.
